Leonard James Ashton was the inaugural Bishop of Cyprus and the Gulf“.[1] Born in 1915[2] and educated at Tyndale Hall,Bristol he was ordained in 1943 and after a curacy at Cheadle was for nearly 30 years an RAF Chaplain.[3] From 1974 until 1976 he was Assistant Bishop of Jerusalem prior to the re-organisation [4] that lead to his elevation to the Episcopate.
